MEET-THE-BRAND: PIBONA COSMETICS

Hi guys!! Welcome to the new week!!

One thing I'm sure of is whenever you buy and use a Nigerian Makeup product, there are two things that would come to mind..either you think " No wonder!! It is a Nigerian brand, rubbish!' or 'OMG!!! This is a Nigerian brand? wow!'  Am I right or am I right??! That being said, this brand I'm introducing today, is definitely in the latter. Move aside all una oyinbo over priced luxury lines, PIBONA COSMETICS is in town!!!

Pibona is a luxury mineral makeup line for women of all ethnicities and myriad of skin tones. With its distinctive colors, this luxury collection is formulated with high quality hypoallergenic multi mineral and antioxidant ingredients, with broadspectrum sunscreen protection, and it is paraben free.
The collection includes: eye shadows in various gorgeous shades, mineral liquid powder foundation, mineral matte blush, HD mascara, brow blenders, long-lasting eyeliners, luxury lip glosses, luxury matte lipsticks, automatic long-lasting lip liners and more.

I was sent some samples for review by Pibona cosmetics...and boy was I glad!! The fact that the entire range is mineral makeup ( which is the first of its kind in Nigeria) and it is a Nigerian Brand, it already had 20% of my heart!  For those of us that don't know, there's been an ongoing war in the makeup world about which is better, mineral makeup or traditional makeup. As far as I know, seen and read, what makes mineral makeup different from traditional makeup isn't the ingredients it contains but what’s left out. The list of left out ingredients includes preservatives, parabens, mineral oil, chemical dyes, and fragrance. Many dermatologists recommend mineral makeup based on the fact that these left out ingredients are possible skin irritants.Mineral Makeup is much less likely to cause a reaction in women with sensitive skin, and because it doesn't contain oil, it won’t aggravate acne-prone skin! So yay Pibona cosmetics?? definitely!! (Don't you just love these cute pouches?!)

So let's get on to the review of the products I was sent!

 MINERAL LIQUID FOUNDATION POWDER.

This product is genius! It is a powder foundation which just simply means, it has the texture of foundation, which makes the application smooth and easy, but dries on your face as in a powdery texture! It’s so natural looking it’s like a second skin and on hot days ( which is everyday in Nigeria) it wears better than traditional liquid makeup. I rareeely use foundation, rareeely, because of the heat..few foundation make it into my personal makeup kit , the likes of Fashion fair and Revlon,,and now I've added Pibona! It so light and matte, you cant go wrong. Oily skin and its wahala, you will be conquered.....Nigerian heat, you have failed!!

It's  got a drug fact leaflet at the back, which makes you know the ingredients they contain, so you can quickly pick out ingredients you react to..great! I haven't seen a Nigerian product with this....please I stand to be corrected. It contains SPF 15 to protect you for the sun and Dimethicone which is also a skin protectant.  It DOESN'T contain  BISMUTH OXYCHLORIDE which is a metal that has been processed with tin and copper. It is a skin irritant and can cause rash, itching, and in larger doses cystic acne. Most drugstore mineral makeup brands contain this, which is not very good. Always look out for this ingredient in product guys...

Another good this about this product is the color match. Mineral makeup has been known to have color matching problems especially with black skin, since they don't use dyes.. but I think Pibona here has done a fine job. I was sent two shades, Espresso and Honey Bronze..The Espresso was a good match, but the honey Honey bronze was way lighter..you already know what I'm thinking... highlight!! (nothing can waste)

LUXURY MATTE LIPSTICK

The lipstick formular is great... Matte but not drying, doesnt settle into lines and cracks, for my dry and always chapped lips, these work perfectly. For the matte texture, think MAC Ruffian Red, Revlon Really Red and other moisturizing mattes. For pigmentation, think MAC's amplified range.. the lipsticks are definitely one my favs of the bunch!

I received two of these, one in Red Carpet and Grace. Red carpet is a bright orangey toned red.. It is a perfect dupe for Revlon Really Red and close to Mac Ruffian Red..

LUXURY GLOSS
These smell like bubble gum!! One of the two went straight into my personal makeup kit, I dont like lipgloss as such, but I love the formulation of these ones. Just like Sleek lipglosses, they are thick but non sticky!!

Here are the two shades I got, Vivid Dream and Skinny Dip. Vivid Dream is a beautiful baby pink while skinny deep is a nude shiny brown!

And the applicator is not bad either!!

LUXURY EYESHADOW

The luxury eyeshadows went straight into my professional makeup kit! I LOVE these babies!! They are smooth!!! SMOOTH!! They weren't lying when they called them Satin Eyeshadows. I so love the texture and the application. Applied on their own, the pigmentation could be better, but over an eyeshadow base, these babies come alive!! Did I also mention that they DO NOT crease?!!

And I love the packaging! Not heavy, not unnecessarily bulky, and wont take up much space in your kit! A makeup artist's dream!! In love!

eyeshadows applied without eyeshadow base

The only thing I don't like about this product is the lack of a name. I don't so much fancy codes and numbers..as they are not easy to describe.

HD MASCARA

This is my FAVOURITE out of the whole bunch!! I wont even say much abot this product other than IT IS LOVELY!! It's been the mascara I have been reaching for since I got it. Ok let the wand do the talking...

The wand is so cute!! If you've got small or scattered uneven lashes, Pibona has your medicine, no yvonne nelson. That is all I would say.
As a personal preference, I would have liked it to be darker, but not everyone likes a VERY VERY VERY dark macara, so this shade is perfect.

PENCILS

Long lasting eyeliners, Long lasting lipliners, and the Gel liner are the ranges under the pencils. They are all automatic pencils meaning they are retractable. I love the Gel pencil, think about a Gel liner in the form of a pencil, no need for angles brushes, no drying up of the gel in the pot! Awesome!!

All in all, I think Pibona has done a very very fine job. Quality is superb, packaging is top notch, prices are affordable, what is there not to love?!!

If you didn't know Pibona is the brain child of Nigerian UK based Princess Ehi Ekhator-Obasogie, who has been a professional makeup artist for over five years before deciding to create “Pibona Cosmetics”.Princess has earned a reputation as a premier makeup artist and beauty entrepreneur. Her active lifestyle, as well as that of her clients, called for a longer lasting, more natural approach to cosmetics. This inspired her to create a cruel free mineral cosmetics line designed for real life and the active women who live it.Hence, Pibona was created!!!
